Hello Hilary, No sea for holiday this year for me, but typical Troyes city and champagne wineyard! It makes a change but rain and freshness are more present! Anyway it’s very plaisant to discover a new french department. A place to come Bises [kisses] Christine
Troyes looks great in the sunshine on the front of the card, but Christine has not been so lucky with the weather, it seems.
The card is postmarked 28-07-17 when most of northern Europe was suffering a very high rainfall during the, so called, height of the summer!
8.7.88 Hey Hilary, Greetings from the Nordkapp in Norway. It’s very beautifull to see the sun at midnight. I am in Norway for 3 weeks and it’s nice to see this country again. I hope you’re well. Take care so long Salutations Christine
The beautiful image on the front of the card is possibly the midnight sun mentioned in the text.
Christine has dated the card, which is helpful as the postmark does not give any indication of date.
The stamp is 3.80 kroner and is one of the definitive set issued in 1988
I met Christine in Norway in 1981; unlike me she has returned on at least one occasion! We continue to exchange news and postcards.
Dear Hilary It’s not Grece, but almost! I am for 1 week South of France, nearby Marseilles and it’s very beautiful. A place to see. And you’re reight it’s fun to recieve post card. I like it too!!! Have a nice summer. Bises Christine
France again and a hand written, physical status update postcard from this month!
The post mark date is 03-08-15
The stamp carries the detail 20g which helpfully indicates the weight of mail for which it is valid.
La Côte Bleue is to the west of Marseilles, so named because of the particular blue of the sea in the area. The picture shows one of the several viaducts carrying the rail tracks, which run for 32km offering spectacular views of the coast and all its narrow, steep walled inlets, or ‘calanques’ as they are known.
Swiss Christine has been inspired by this blog to send me another postcard to add to the collection -it’s good to hear from her again and to know that we have been exchanging news for 34 years!
Greating from Greece where the sun is hot. I am here for 3 weeks and it’s fun to see this country again. I hope what every things are all right for you. Do you have a nice sammer? Grosses bises xxxx Christine
Postmarked Monemvasia 5th August 1987, this card shows a partial view of Mystras, the thirteenth century castle built near Sparta, which is now a World Heritage Site.
The stamp is one of a series of four commemorating 150 years of higher education in Greece.
This is another card from Swiss Christine who continued to work in and travel to many countries – it was always exciting to receive her postcards.
Dear Hilary, You can see it, I am in Canada. I’ll stay here only for 3 weeks. It is a very beautiful country and automns colors are very beautiful People are very nice. I hope to have news from you very soon. Bonnes salutations et grosses bises Christine. ***Coppet (VD) Suisse.
There is no date on this card and no legible postmark, but the 68 cent Spinning Wheel Heritage Stamp was issued in 1985.
The pictures on the front are of The Montmorency Waterfall, The Château Frontenac, The Saint-Jean Gate and The City Hall of Quebec.
I met Christine when I first arrived in Norway and she was coming to the end of her time there. We exchanged addresses and stayed in touch, she has included a contact update at the end of this card. Christine comes from the French speaking region of Switzerland. We continue to exchange cards and emails in faltering French (me) / English (her), and have managed to meet up several times over the years, in both the UK and Switzerland.
